Day 332 of 365life

I had the opportunity to present a mini SIM class at one of our merchandise today and the Safety Manager for Epcot Merchandise and Entertainment was there. When we were finished I had the opportunity to speak with her, as this was our first meeting, and she very complimentary of my presentation. It was a nice pick me up. I didn't know what was going to come out of my mouth for this presentation. We weren't given a whole lot of direction on what the area wanted so I had to wing it, and I wasn't sure how I was coming across. Now that I have one day down the next two should be a piece of cake. And today I did something that I normally have a hard time doing... I said thank you, when I was complimented... baby steps... Love, peace and baby steps... Musicsongbird

Day 189 of 365

Sometimes in life you come to place where you just decide, OK no matter what today brings good or bad I am going to face it head on and make the best of every moment. I have written about my Safety class many times and how bored cast can get in it; well I taught it twice today and both classes left smiling and more educated on how important safety is for themselves and the guests that they serve.  If I bring the same excitement and passion to Safety as I do to train the trainer or my everyday regular cast training, then I see cast really understanding why safety is truly important and not just tag line they are taught. I want to set an example to my fellow cast, of course falling down the steps a few days ago is not the example I am referring to, but the fact that I called out for help when it happened and didn't try and blow it off like I am guilty of doing in the past. (falling in front of Test Track backstage rings a bell) And yes, I will repeat, I was holding the handrail w...

Day 161 of 365

I love training Safety to a class when I have an older cast member in the room. I know that it sounds strange but generally the older cast really sees the importance of the class and they genuinely give you their full attention. I would be lying if I said that the class is fun to attend. The information given is extremely important but the expectations of how we are required to deliver it could put an insomniac to sleep. I had the honor of having one of our Entertainment Cast in my class today, he has been playing the piano for Disney for well over 15 years. Sometimes it hard to read cast as your teaching, especially when a few are continuously trying to keep themselves awake, or when you ask questions no one answers. At the end of class my entertainer came up to me and thanked me and told me that he really learned some things he didn't know and he invited me to come see him perform and he'd have me come up and lead the Hokey Pokey, ;-) (you have to have been in one of my cla...
